Atlantis Rugby is proud to recognize player number 2,000: Norah Rosenburg! Norah is in 12th grade and recently competed at the Old North State Invitational Tournament with the inaugural Atlantis U18 Girls’ XV side. Norah has been described by Coach Brittany Vegso as an agile second row player and valuable lineout jumper. Her exceptional work rate results in line breaks and sturdy rucks, bringing a dynamic aspect to our forwards’ attack. She brings her teammates together and shares the rugby spirit with everyone she meets. Norah has committed to play rugby at La Salle University next fall.
The mission of the Atlantis Rugby Academy is to develop the character, technical skills, and tactical knowledge for players to provide them an opportunity to compete at the highest level. Through regional clinics, high performance training camps, and tours, Atlantis provides players who want to play High Performance rugby in and after high school an ability to grow their game and the sport. With this mission in mind, we are thrilled to see a player like Norah claim this honor.
When Atlantis Rugby first got started in the mid-1980s it was hard to imagine that we would one day reach this milestone. However, thanks to Emil’s foresight we have always tried to keep good records. Here are some other interesting player numbers we have awarded through the years:
-1: Shawn Hoffert
0: Rick Avate
That’s correct folks, Atlantis Rugby has a player with the number of negative one and another with the number zero! After Emil Signes launched Atlantis officially at Harvard 7s in 1986 he retroactively decided that Hoffert and Avate deserved recognition from the 1985 Sudamericano Sevens which served as a "pre-Atlantis" team.
1: Geoff Bermingham
7: Pete Peluso
10: Brian Corcoran
50: Chris Bader
100: Rob Farley
123: Keith McLean
150: Chris Thomas
161: Tam Breckenridge (first female Atlantis player number)
250: Jerry Morrone
500: Nigel D’Acre
750: Kate Daley
1000: Liam Boyle (that is Biddy’s son)
1111: Giovanna Ferguson-Lewis
1234: Dan Deal
1250: Maitlin Combs
1500: Bayleigh Gable
1750: Joe Dahlstrom
1776: Austin York
1914: Anthony Ayre (first player awarded a number for 15s)
2000: Nora Rosenburg
It’s been a great run for us, and it is so much fun to keep track of these records in order to celebrate these milestones. Can’t wait to cheer on Atlantis Player 3000 one day!
