Atlantis Rugby brought 7 teams to the North American Invitational in Utah this weekend. Each of our teams was entered into the Elite or Tier 1 level of their respective divisions which means that we are facing off against nothing but the best competition that North America has to offer.
With that being said, we are thrilled to announce that 6 of our Atlantis Rugby sides have made it to the Cup Quarterfinals! Each division we entered – U18/16/14 Boys and Girls has a quarterfinalist to cheer on!
Overall on the day Atlantis compiled an aggregate record of 13 Wins 6 Losses 1 Draw against a field of amazing athletes. The girls in particular were impressive going 7-2 today with a +106 point differential.
Below we’ve collected the results for all of our matches played thus far as well as the kickoff times for our quarterfinal matches. All info comes from nai7s.com and the times are in Mountain Time. Each match is being streamed on FloRugby.
U18 Boys Elite Teal (2-1 record with a +10 point differential)
Friday:
17-7 Win vs Pioneer 7s Select
0-29 Loss vs Rebel Rugby Academy
29-0 Win vs Washington Academy of Rugby (WAR)
The U18 Boys Elite Teal side has made it to the Cup Quarterfinals where we will get another crack at Layton Christian Academy. Layton finished the season ranked in the top 20 Nationally by Goff Rugby Report and are becoming a familiar foe as we went up against them twice recently at Bloodfest 7s. This is set up to be a phenomenal match.
Saturday:
10:00AM Cup Quarterfinal vs Layton Christian Academy
U18 Boys Elite Black (0-2-1 with a -73 point differential)
Friday:
12-12 Draw vs Kahuku Boys Rugby
5-33 Loss vs Utah Warriors Academy
0-45 Loss vs Rhinos Academy
Unfortunately, U18 Boys Elite Black wasn’t able to make it to the quarterfinals and the website does not currently have a Bowl Competition listed. We will follow up on that if there is one. It was a tough weekend for Black but the opportunity to play against a pool that produced 3 of the 8 quarterfinalists will serve these athletes well as they continue to grow and develop.
U16 Boys Tier 1 (2-0 record with a +33 point differential)
Friday:
19-10 Win vs Rebel Rugby Academy
36-12 Win vs Provo Steelers Youth
A decent number of this group played together recently at Cheesesteak 7s and the cohesion is paying off. Due to having 15 teams in the U16 Tier 1 competition we only got to play 2 pool play matches, but the boys made the most of them with two wins and now they will have an opportunity to face off against a dangerous Rhinos Rugby Academy side.
Saturday:
9:40AM Cup Quarterfinal vs Rhinos Rugby Academy
U14 Boys Tier 1 (2-1 record with a -20 point differential)
Friday:
20-0 Win vs Kaji Rugby
0-43 Loss vs Rhinos Rugby Academy
22-19 Win vs Salt Lake Valley Rhinos
The Tier 1 U14 Boys had an up and down day but when it really mattered, they stuck it out for a win in their final match and the opportunity to take on a very strong Broncos Rugby Club in the quarterfinals.
Saturday:
9:20AM Cup Quarterfinal vs Broncos Rugby Club
U18 Girls (2-1 record with a +61 point differential)
Friday:
37-5 Win vs Rugby Colorado Academy
41-0 Win vs San Mateo Wolverines
21-33 Loss vs Majestics
There were 24 teams in this division so everyone that made it to the quarterfinals played really well on Friday and this should be an incredibly exciting knockout bracket. The Atlantis U18 girls came firing right out of the gate to bank a couple of big wins and will take on The Rugby Advantage who were very strong on Day 1 in the quarters.
Saturday:
9:40AM Cup Quarterfinal vs The Rugby Advantage
U16 Girls (3-0 record with a +49 point differential)
Friday:
26-5 Win vs Mana Performance Rugby
19-5 Win vs Guam Rugby Club (GRC Barbarians)
19-5 Win vs Southbay Spartans
The U16 girls were probably Atlantis’ strongest overall side on Friday with a 3-0 record and a solid point differential (our U16 boys and girls combined to go 5-0 on Friday so that’s been an outstanding age group for us). Their quarterfinal matchup will be a rematch with Mana Performance Rugby who should certainly not be overlooked. Mana is coming in with momentum following a 32-14 win in their final pool play match so this should be a really exciting match.
Saturday:
9:40AM Cup Quarterfinal vs Mana Performance Rugby
U14 Girls (2-1 record with -4 point differential)
Friday:
0-29 Loss vs Rhinos Academy
22-12 Win vs Los Al Tribe
27-12 Win vs Provo Steelers Youth
The U14s had a tough opening match against a strong Rhinos Academy side but they bounced back with aplomb to score two solid wins and punch their ticket to the quarterfinals.
Saturday:
9:00AM Cup Quarterfinal vs Mountain Ridge Rugby
