Atlantis Rugby in action in South Africa

Atlantis Rugby was founded in 1986 and played our first tournament at Harvard on April 27 of that year. By March of 1987 we participated in our fifth tournament, this time in in Surrey, England for Camberley Sevens. We have since added the following countries to the list of places we have played: Scotland, Spain, New Zealand, Ireland, No. Ireland, Uruguay, Bulgaria, UAE (Dubai), Trinidad & Tobago, Fiji, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Argentina, Canada, Netherlands, Portugal, Venezuela, Cuba, Cayman Islands, Brazil, Singapore, Thailand, Paraguay, Malaysia, Italy, French Polynesia, Mexico, Laos, France, Barbados, Grenada, Colombia, and South Africa (with Costa Rica coming up in December).

The recent FISU U23 tournament in South Africa puts us at 36 countries, with a 37th on the way later this year when we compete in Rainforest 7s in Costa Rica. If you want a really great recap of the FISU event please make sure to subscribe to The Rugby Breakdown and read their article here: https://therugbybreakdown.com/atlantis-reps-u-s-at-world-university-games/

Love Rugby Company has also updated the Atlantis flag t-shirt with the new entries if anyone is interested: https://www.loverugbycompany.com/atlantis-sevens-mens-rugby-flag-tshirt.html

FISU stands for Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire and it dates back to 1949 (though it can trace its roots back even earlier) and was part of visionary Parisian sports leader Jean Petitjean’s dream of bringing the World University Games back to life following World War II. Coach Josie Ziluca compared the event to a “mini-Olympics” and designed a uniform that reflected our representation of both the USA and our Atlantis Rugby history in this event.

The players were thrilled to have this opportunity to represent their country and finished in sixth place against a field that consisted of National Teams from around the world. The roster included:

PK Vincze

Olivia Baptiste

Kerena Tinoisamoa

Vivianne Wright

Cameron Fields

Julia Murray

Leah Lockerman

Morgan Cunningham

Merrin McSorley

Kate Muldoon

Emma Buxton

Aly Cunningham

The staff included Josie Ziluca, Allie Ramage, and Paul Diorio.

New Atlantis Rugby Player Numbers from this tour were given to:

Aly Cunningham – 2299

Cameron Fields – 2300
