Atlantis Rugby recently participated in the U16 Boys division of the National Youth 7s Championship in Ohio. The event featured some of the best young rugby players from around the country and served as a great opportunity to bridge the gap between Tropical 7s and the upcoming North American Invitational. After the boys assembled, trained, and did some sightseeing that included a trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the jersey presentation it was time to take the field.
Pool play started off rather well with 34-0 and 45-0 victories over Woodlands and Wildcat before a stumble against Gorilla where our opponents were able to claim victory on the last play of the match in a 21-14 loss.
Going 2-1 in pool play put us into the semifinals, but it also meant we’d be matching up against a very strong Panther Rugby Academy side that played extremely well and beat us 31-12. Despite picking up a couple of losses the boys held strong and put on an excellent performance in the third-place match to secure a spot on the podium with a 36-7 win over Badger.
On the weekend overall the team went 3-2 with a +82 point differential. We were also very happy to see Kole Frogley (in his Atlantis debut) and Jack Olivo earn places on the National Dream Team.
The roster for the event included three new Atlantis players – Kole Frogley, Gabriel Rademacher, and Randy Turaga – who were assigned player numbers 1911, 1912, and 1913 respectively and the full roster by uniform number (with Atlantis player numbers in parenthesis) was:
Randy Turaga (1913)
Jack Olivo (1891)
Kole Frogley (1911)
Dominick Pecora (1902)
Joey Craig (1677)
Alexander Drury (1829)
Sacha Meunier (1835)
Gabriel Rademacher (1912)
Cole Doyon (1828)
Dylan Hessels (1772)
Sebastian Meyers (1765)
